DAY 2 TUNIS CITY CENTER – SIDI BOU SAID - CARTHAGE
After breakfast we head to the center of the modern and vibrant Tunisian capital, the city of Tunis. We will walk through the new - French part of the city to the old Arab quarter – the medina, where there are numerous shops and souvenir stores and where you will have the opportunity to try your hand at bargaining. Free time for shopping. After lunch we will visit the remains of one of the greatest cities of the ancient world, Carthage, once called the pearl of the Mediterranean. The ruins of Carthage, now under UNESCO protection, will reveal an interesting past and tell the story of Princess Elissa and the great general Hannibal. In the Carthage area we will visit Byrsa Hill, from which Carthage takes its name and from where there is a fantastic panoramic view of the city of Tunis and the Antonine Baths, which were once among the largest baths in the Roman Empire. In the late afternoon we will go to the idyllic artists' town of Sidi Bou Said where we will surrender to the romance and magnificent panoramic views towards Carthage and Tunis and enjoy the atmosphere of this blue-and-white town that many compare to the Greek island of Santorini. Accommodation at Hotel El Mouradi 5* in Tunis, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 3 TUNIS - BARDO – DOUGGA – HAMMAMET
In the morning a visit to the Bardo Museum - one of the most important museums in the Mediterranean and, by its collection, second on the African continent. It is housed in a former Turkish palace and contains one of the largest collections of Roman mosaics in the world. After the museum visit we continue to Dougga. We will stop nearby for lunch. Dougga is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites and has been protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1997. It is well worth seeing the ruins of the theatre, which once could hold up to 3,000 spectators, the Temple of Saturn, the temple of the goddess Juno and many other attractions. Then we drive to Hammamet. Accommodation at Hotel El Mouradi 4*, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 4 HAMMAMET – KAIROUAN - TOZEUR
After breakfast we depart for southern Tunisia. Our first stop is the holy city of Kairouan, founded in the 7th century. For many Muslims Kairouan is the fourth holiest city in the world and is also known for its beautiful handmade carpets. After a sightseeing tour (external view) of the Oqba ibn Nafi Mosque and the carpet bazaar, we continue southwards and stop for lunch en route. In the afternoon we arrive in Tozeur, known as the country's largest date palm oasis. Possibility to visit the desert zoo and reptile show, carriage rides through the palm oasis, the interesting historical museum Dar Zamen and the Dar Cheriat museum (for an extra charge). Accommodation at Hotel El Mouradi Tozeur 4*, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 5 TOZEUR – CHOTT EL JERID – DOUZ
After an early breakfast we go on an optional excursion (extra charge) by off-road vehicles to the mountain oases of Chebika and Tamerza, near the Algerian border, and to the very heart of the Atlas mountains where we will enjoy views of stunning nature; waterfalls, canyons, springs and date palms. Our jeeps will take us along the old off-road Paris-Dakar route, where during an interesting and adrenaline-filled ride we will discover the charms of the Sahara. In the middle of the desert we will also see the "space village", the sets left over from the filming of the famous Star Wars movie. We will return to the hotel in Tozeur for lunch, after which we continue to the salt lake Chott el Jerid, the largest salt depression in North Africa. The lake completely dries up in the summer months and is a special attraction. We will reach Douz, known as the "Gateway to the Sahara", in the afternoon and check in at Hotel El Mouradi Douz 4*. If desired, you will have the opportunity to experience the desert a little differently – on camelback (optional, extra charge). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 6 DOUZ – MATMATA – EL JEM – PORT EL KANTAOUI
In the morning after breakfast the desert route takes us to the Matmata mountains, known as the Moon Region. We will visit a typical Berber underground house, called a troglodyte house, where some Berbers (the indigenous inhabitants of Tunisia) still live, preserving their culture and language. In Matmata we will taste some of their specialties: homemade bread, olive oil and honey, and refresh with mint tea. On the way north we will stop for lunch and in the afternoon arrive in El Jem, where we will see one of the largest and best preserved Roman amphitheatres. A walk through the amphitheatre will take us back to a distant past and the time when gladiators fought in the arena. The ruins have been protected as a World Cultural Heritage site since 1979. In the evening we will arrive in Port El Kantaoui, where we will stay at Hotel El Mouradi 4*. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 7 MONASTIR – SOUSSE – PORT EL KANTAOUI

Monastir is the birthplace of the first president of independent Tunisia, Habib Bourguiba, whom locals call the father of modern Tunisia. We will visit the mausoleum of his family, which in appearance resembles a mosque. Then we drive to the city of Sousse (the third largest city in the country) and to the medina.
