1. ZAGREB - ISTANBUL - MEXICO CITY

Meeting of passengers at Zagreb Airport two hours before the flight. Check-in for the flight to Istanbul on TK1056 (Turkish Airlines) and departure at 19:55. Upon arrival in Istanbul at 00:15 local time, continuation of the flight to Mexico City at 01:55 on TK181 (Turkish Airlines). Overnight flight with meals served on board.

2. MEXICO CITY

Arrival in Mexico City at 07:35 local time, meeting with the representative of the local agent and organized transfer to a hotel in the strict city center. Followed by a sightseeing tour of Mexico’s capital. We will see the main Zocalo Square, the Cathedral (the largest on the continent) and the Presidential Palace with murals by Diego Rivera, husband of the famous painter Frida Kahlo. Then Templo Mayor - the ruins of the Aztec city, Mexico City’s largest avenue - Paseo de la Reforma, Chapultepec Park and the National Museum of Anthropology. After a full-day tour return to the hotel. Overnight stay. Optional: possibility of lunch at the restaurant of the National Museum of Anthropology or dinner at one of the traditional Mexican restaurants near the hotel (not included in the price). Overnight stay.

3. MEXICO CITY – TEOTIHUACAN – MEXICO CITY

Breakfast. Departure for a full-day excursion around Mexico City. On the way to the Teotihuacan site, visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe - the most important pilgrimage site in all of Latin America and the center of Catholicism in this part of the world. Arrival at the world-famous archaeological zone - Teotihuacan, about 45 kilometers from the capital. Tour the remains of some of the largest pre-Columbian pyramidal structures: the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Avenue of the Dead, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. Lunch during the tour (included). Visit to a factory producing obsidian (a type of volcanic glass) and lava products, tequila tasting and presentation of cactus products. Return to Mexico City. Free evening for personal activities. Overnight stay.

4. MEXICO CITY – TAXCO – MEXICO CITY

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we go on a full-day excursion to Taxco, the silver city. Historically known for silver and other metal mines, and today for filigree craftsmanship, silver jewelry and cutlery, as well as charming colonial mansions, cobbled streets and picturesque surrounding scenery. Walk to the main square and the Church of St. Prisca, built of pink stone, a beautiful example of New Spanish Baroque. Free time for coffee, strolling and souvenir shopping. After the tour drive to one of the oldest haciendas in Mexico, Hacienda Vista Hermosa. Lunch at the estate (included), with a tour. Return to Mexico City. Overnight stay.

5. MEXICO CITY – MERIDA – UXMAL – MERIDA

After breakfast check-out from the hotel and organized transfer to Mexico City airport. Flight to Merida. Upon arrival in the “White City” - Merida, the city of music and beautiful colonial buildings, we continue to the archaeological site of Uxmal. Once a large pre-Columbian Maya city, Uxmal—meaning “built three times”—is today a famous archaeological site with remains of palaces and temples that take your breath away and is rightly inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Tour of the site: the Pyramid of the Dwarf (Pirámide del Adivino), the Governor’s Palace (Palacio de Gobernador), the Nunnery Quadrangle (Cuadrángulo de las Monjas) and the House of the Turtles (Casa de las Tortugas). Lunch during the tour (included). Return to Merida and free afternoon for personal activities. We suggest a walk along the famous Paseo de Montejo, reminiscent of Paris’s Champs-Élysées, lined with numerous mansions, restaurants, cafés, pastry shops and shops. You can also visit one of the many museums. End the day with dinner at one of the many local restaurants, enjoying tacos and Mexican beer or tequila. Overnight stay.

6. MERIDA - CHICHEN ITZA - XCAJUM CENOTE - CANCUN

After an early breakfast check-out from the hotel and departure for a tour of Merida. Merida, the cultural capital of the Yucatan Peninsula, is a cosmopolitan city with colonial architecture and a rich cultural heritage. Tour the Government Palace, Casa de Montejo, the cathedral, the Jose Peon Contreras theater and a walk along the famous Montejo boulevard, named after the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Montejo ("el Mozo") who founded the city in 1542. Then we visit the Palacio de Cantón museum, a building designed and built by Italian architect Enrico Desserto in the early 20th century, today housing the Regional Museum of Anthropology whose exhibits illustrate the history and culture of the Yucatan with special emphasis on the daily life of the indigenous Maya population. We continue to the most famous Maya site - Chichen Itza, where we will see numerous attractions: the Kukulkan Pyramid - one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, the Temple of a Thousand Columns, the ceremonial ballcourt (the largest in the world) and the Observatory. After the tour we will stop at the Xcajum Cenote site where you will have lunch (included) and the option to swim in the cave lakes of underground water known as cenotes which can be found across the Yucatan Peninsula. After lunch we continue to the popular resort of Cancun where we will check in to a hotel on an all inclusive basis (full board and all local non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks and cocktails included). Overnight stay.

7. CANCUN

Breakfast, free day and plenty of time to enjoy the beach with all inclusive service, stroll around Cancun or take optional excursions. We recommend trips to the eco-theme parks Xcaret or Xel-Ha or to the nearby island Isla Mujeres, which translates as Island of Women. The island is about 13 kilometers off the Yucatan coast and is dedicated to the Maya goddess of childbirth Ixchel and is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Spend the day enjoying the beautiful Caribbean beaches favored for their incredible turquoise hues, relaxing under coconut palms, sipping cocktails or snorkeling to discover the colorful tropical underwater life. During breaks from swimming we suggest exploring the colorful streets of this lovely island with numerous authentic shops, souvenir stores, bars and restaurants. Motorized traffic is generally prohibited on the island, and you can also tour it by electric golf carts. In the late afternoon return to Cancun. Overnight stay.

8. CANCUN – optional excursion TULUM

After breakfast a free day for your own activities and programs or we suggest an optional excursion to Tulum. The ruins of the ancient Maya city set against the backdrop of the turquoise Caribbean Sea and a magical sandy beach. Thanks to the unreal beauty of the tropical beach setting, Tulum is one of Mexico’s most famous tourist attractions. Tulum was one of the most famous Maya coastal cities. It lies on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, on a 12-meter-high cliff which provided natural protection on one side. On the other side the city was protected by a wall up to 5 meters high and even 8 meters wide! In the time of the Maya this was a heavily fortified city and port. It was built around 1200 AD, at a time when Maya civilization was beginning to slowly decline, and it is also one of the last cities the Maya built and inhabited. Lunch (included in the excursion price). Return to Cancun. Overnight stay.

9. CANCUN - ISTANBUL

After breakfast check-out from the hotel and transfer to Cancun airport. Check-in and departure for Istanbul on TK181 (Turkish Airlines) at 14:30. Overnight flight with meals served on board.

10. ISTANBUL - ZAGREB

Arrival in Istanbul at 10:40 local time. Possibility to go to central Istanbul accompanied by the tour leader (for an additional fee payable locally). Continuation of the flight to Zagreb on TK1055 (Turkish Airlines) at 18:40. Estimated arrival in Zagreb at 19:00 local time.

Shopping: Mexico has a very rich tradition of handicrafts (artesanías). The most interesting items to buy are silver, gold, ceramics, silk, straw, glass, leather and semi-precious stones. Very interesting are men’s shirts (guayaberas), white women’s dresses with embroidered flowers in multicolored thread (huipiles) and wool blankets (sarapes). If you purchase oil paintings and sculptures, be sure to ask for a receipt because you will need to present it when leaving the country. Otherwise the purchased goods will have to be left in Mexico. 

Clothing and footwear: Since the climate is mostly tropical and mild throughout the year, it is recommended to bring light cotton and linen clothing and footwear and a warmer sweater or jacket for evenings and for staying in air-conditioned spaces. 
Food and drink: national dishes: tortilla, frijoles and chiles. Tortilla is a common corn or wheat flatbread, cooked or baked. Frijoles are beans, eaten boiled, fried or in soup, on a tortilla and combined with almost anything. Chiles are very hot peppers. Mexican snacks are antojitos ("little whims"), today most commonly called especialidades mexicanas or platillos mexicanos. Soups are also very popular and there are vegetable, meat and seafood soups, including meat soup, gazpacho – a cold vegetable soup with chili. Fish is also widely consumed, especially along the coast and in large cities. Mexico produces an incredible variety of alcoholic beverages made from grapes and cactus.

Climate: Generally, Mexico has a tropical climate, with wet summers and dry winters. However, there are large climatic differences between the desert north and the tropical south, between the humid eastern parts and the dry Pacific coast. Mexico City enjoys a mild climate year-round. Nights and mornings are cool and afternoons warm. Afternoon showers are common during July and August. The Yucatan Peninsula and southern Mexico are characterized by high temperatures and high humidity. Sea temperatures are around 25-26°C.
